I`ve used Bates` butchers on a number of occasions,especially when I`m doing a meal for friends and I`m cooking "un-mucked-about with" meat.This guy knows his meat,especially pork and the product is first class.On top of which he has venison,rabbit`home-made pies etc.Maybe it may cost a few pence more than the average butcher but an average butcher Mr.Bates ain`t.Artisans like this are being lost to supermarket `plastic meat suppliers` and if we don`t support people like this they will vanish and we shall be much the poorer for it.

what a helpful chap. i phoned up about purchasing a whole leg of ham (gammon) & my query was answered extreemly well with explanation of different cuts, sizes etc. the reason for only a 4 star rating is that i haven't tasted the product yet which, if its as good as the butcher sounds, will be brilliant. well done & 3 cheers for a traditional, dare i say, "old fashioned" trader.
